To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what measures are in place to ensure that Scottish returning officers receive appropriate guidance on who can register for elections anonymously; and if he will make a statement. (157815)

Statutory responsibility for the provision of guidance to electoral administrators, including returning officers, lies with the Electoral Commission. The Commission provided guidance on anonymous registration in Circular EC24/2007 which issued to all electoral registration officers and returning officers in Scotland on 22 May this year.
