Hospital Beds

Volume 464: debated on Monday 15 October 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what targets were set for delayed discharge of patients aged (a) below 65 years and (b) 65 years and over in each year since 1997. (157704)

The national health service plan contained a commitment to reduce widespread delayed discharges by 2004.

Councils and their NHS partners have already made significant progress in reducing delays in hospital. Between September 2001 and June 2007 the number of people over the age of 75 delayed in hospital reduced from 5,673 to 1,627, a reduction of 71 per cent., and total delays for the same period reduced from 7,065 to 2,173, a reduction of 69 per cent.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many delayed discharges there were of patients aged (a) below 65 years and (b) 65 years and over nationally in each year since 1997, broken down by health trust. (157705)
