To ask the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills what the total (a) private and (b) public spending on research and development was as a share of GDP in each year since 1992. (155906)

The following table sets out the total expenditure on research and development, as a percentage share of GDP, from both private and public sources for the years 1995 to 2005 (the latest year for which figures are available).
