Animal Welfare: Prosecutions

Volume 467: debated on Thursday 22 November 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many criminal charges of animal cruelty were brought in Northern Ireland in each of the last five years. (164392)

The number of people charged with offences relating to animal cruelty is not collected centrally; however, the number of people prosecuted for such offences is collected and is set out in the following table.

Data cover the calendar years 2001 to 2005 (the latest available years) and are collated on the principal offence rule; so only the most serious offence with which an offender is charged is included.
