Care Homes: Closures

Volume 467: debated on Thursday 22 November 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many care homes have closed in (a) Eastbourne, (b) East Sussex and (c) England in the last 10 years; and if he will make a statement. (165316)

Data on care home closures prior to 2002 are not held centrally. We are informed by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) that the numbers of homes de-registered in Eastbourne, East Sussex and England since 2002-03 were as shown in the table. De-registration includes not only homes permanently closed but also temporary closures, for example, while refurbishment takes place or while a new manager is appointed.
