To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport pursuant to the statement by the Prime Minister on 14 November 2007, Official Report, columns 667-72, on national security, when he expects the Royal Television Society and Society of Newspaper Editors to hold the conference and regional debates on how to ensure accurate and balanced reporting of issues related to terrorism in the media, announced by the Prime Minister; what contribution his Department expects to make to the costs of these debates; and if he will make a statement. The timing and format of the conference and debates are a matter for the organisations concerned. The Government have not received any request for a contribution towards the costs but would be happy to consider what support might be necessary to make them successful.
