To ask the Secretary of State for Health what his most recent estimate is of the cost of implementation of the National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare (a) in total and (b) broken down by major cost area. (165823)

The estimated overall cost to the national health service is £219 million in the first full year of implementation. This includes an allowance for primary care trusts to continue to pay the high band nursing care contribution for all those people receiving it, when the framework was implemented on 1 October 2007.
