To ask the Secretary of State for Justice for how many of the additional 1,500 prison places announced on 19th June 2007 funding has been secured; and where these funded places will be. (168498)

Funding has been confirmed for the first 500 of the additional 1,500 places announced in June this year. These places will be provided in existing adult male prisons. The current locations are:

Erlestoke, Wiltshire

Ranby, Nottinghamshire

Blundeston, Suffolk

Kirklevington Grange, Cleveland

Isle of Wight

Wymott, Lancashire

Ashwell, Rutland

Highpoint, Suffolk

Decisions on the remaining 1,000 places will be made after Lord Carter has completed his review on the supply and demand of prison places.
