Local Authorities: Equal Opportunities

Volume 468: debated on Thursday 29 November 2007

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what discussions he has had with the Treasury on the appropriate level of resources for local authorities in relation to their obligations under the disability equality duty. (162609)

The Department held discussions on this issue with the Department for Communities and Local Government (then Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) as part of the development of the Disability Discrimination Act 2005.

We provided local authorities with an additional £11 million over the last two financial years, in line with our responsibilities under the New Burdens rules for the work which authorities were required to carry out to develop a disability equality scheme.
