Mental Health Services: Suffolk

Volume 470: debated on Monday 7 January 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many dedicated beds were available for mental health patients in Suffolk in each year since 1997. (175235)

Information is not available prior to 2005-06. Due to trust mergers and demergers, data are not comparable. The number of beds available at Suffolk Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust in 2005-06 was 205 and in 2006-07 it was 258.

The reduction in mental health bed numbers reflects the increasing provision by the national health service in England of treatment for patients with mental health conditions in primary care and community settings, without the need for hospital admissions.
