Schools: Work Experience

Volume 471: debated on Tuesday 29 January 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families what his policy is on work experience at schools. (181036)

The Education Act 2002 introduced from September 2004 an entitlement for all pupils to a programme of work related learning at Key Stage 4 (14 to 16-year-olds). Work related learning may be provided in a number of ways, including through work experience. It is Government policy that young people should participate in work experience at Key Stage 4. 95 per cent. of young people do so and there is good evidence that the vast majority of them and the employers that provide the places enjoy and value their experience. A minimum of 10 days work-experience will be a requirement of Diplomas.
