Accident and Emergency Departments

To ask the Secretary of State for Health pursuant to the Answer of 5 February 2008, Official Report, column 1063W, on accident and emergency departments, how many of each type of accident and emergency services there were in each region of England in each year for which figures are available since 1997. (188508)

Figures for the numbers of accident and emergency (A and E) departments at the end of each of the financial years 2005-06, 2006-07 and the latest 2007-08 date (position as at end December 2007) have been provided. More historic data have not been provided as the information could be produced only at disproportionate cost.
