Customs Officers: Training

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many HM Revenue and Customs officers are trained in Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species-related issues; how many were trained in each year since 1997; and if he will make a statement. (190783)

Approximately 4,500 staff are engaged in anti smuggling duties and undertake training in Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species-related issues, as part of their mandatory training.

The following table below highlights how many staff were trained in each year, since centrally kept records were kept:
