Burma: Sanctions

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make it his policy to support calls for targeted banking sanctions against members of the military regime in Burma. (189964)

We are actively examining the options for extending existing measures to include targeted banking sanctions against members of the military regime in Burma.

The EU common position on Burma includes a ban on investment and the provision of financial services to certain enterprises linked to the military regime. It also includes an asset freeze, which targets the regime leadership, the senior ranks of the military and their family members.
