Winter Fuel Payments: Inflation

Volume 472: debated on Wednesday 5 March 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions if he will link the winter fuel payment to the rate of inflation. (189021)

The winter fuel payment provides a significant contribution to an older person’s winter fuel bill. The payment has increased significantly since its introduction, rising from £20 to £200 for households with someone aged 60 to 79 and £300 for households with someone aged 80 or over. We currently have no plans to link the payment to the rate of inflation although we keep these issues under consideration.
