Poverty

Volume 472: debated on Friday 7 March 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what targets have been set for poverty reduction by 2010; and what progress has been made towards them. (185945)

We have set a target to halve the number of children in relative poverty by 2010-11 from a starting point of 3.4 million in 1999-99. In addition we have a further target to eradicate child poverty by 2020.

Significant progress has been made so far, with 600,000 fewer children living in relative poverty in 2005-06 compared with 1998-99.
