Illegal Immigrants

Volume 474: debated on Wednesday 2 April 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what guidance her Department gives to chief constables on the consideration to be given to duty of care to the community when considering the grant of authorisation for operations to remove illegal immigrants. (197025)

There is an agreed Memorandum of Understanding between the Border and Immigration Agency and each police force in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

This understanding ensures that all operations are risk assessed prior to deployment. Part of this risk assessment entails a community impact assessment being carried out by the police force governing the operation. Each police force reserves the right to veto any operation on grounds of adverse community reaction.
