15. To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment he has made of the level of Government borrowing benchmarked against other major economies. (200875)

Over the economic cycle that began in 1997-98, UK public sector net borrowing averaged 1.0 per cent. of GDP, whereas for both the euro area and OECD as a whole, borrowing averaged 2 per cent. of GDP over the same period.
