Taiwan: Politics and Government

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what criteria the Government use in determining their policy on whether Taiwan should be recognised as an independent country. (198887)

The Government's long-standing position is that it does not recognise Taiwan as an independent State. We acknowledge the position of the Chinese Government that Taiwan is a province of China and recognise the Chinese Government as the sole legal Government of China.
