Timor Leste: Death

Volume 474: debated on Thursday 24 April 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will discuss the New South Wales coroner's findings on the death of the British journalist Brian Peters in Balibo, East Timor in 1975 with the Australian Prime Minister on his forthcoming visit to the UK; and if he will make a statement. (198821)

My right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary did not discuss the death of Brian Peters when he met with the Australian Prime Minister earlier this month.

However, I plan to raise this issue with the Australian government to find out how the case is progressing and seek an indication as to when the process might be completed.
