Young Offender Institutions: Telephones

Volume 475: debated on Monday 28 April 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what percentage of inmates in each (a) young offender institution and (b) secure training centre has daily access to a telephone to communicate with family. (202026)

This information is not available for prisoners in young offender institutions (YOIs). However, all prisoners must be given access to telephones during association and other such times that can be facilitated by each prison's regime. The time available for prisoners to use telephones must not be less than two hours each day.

All trainees in Secure Training Centres have daily access to telephones.
