To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment he has made of the actions of the Human Tissue Authority in the case of Laura Ashworth and Rachel Leake; and if he will make a statement. (200678)

The Human Tissue Act 2004 places responsibility on the Human Tissue Authority for implementing the consent requirements of the Act, which cover consent for the transplantation of organs.

There has been a long established principle that donated organs from deceased donors are matched and allocated to the person on the transplant waiting list who is most in need and who provides the best match.
