Police Custody

Volume 475: debated on Tuesday 6 May 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice which police authorities or chief constables have notified his Department that they will not provide it with police cells after a specified date; what the date is in each case; and how many police cells are currently provided to his Department by those authorities. (202668)

Police cells are made available through Operation Safeguard under an agreement between ACPO and the National Offender Management Service. Those forces that do not participate in Operation Safeguard provide cells as ad hoc lockouts. No police force has advised my Department that they will not make cells available to hold prisoners.
