To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families what assessment he has made of trends in levels of absence from key stage 3 tests; how many pupils registered to take key stage 3 tests were absent from these tests in the last year for which figures are available, broken down by local authority; and if he will make a statement. The absence rate for key stage 3 (KS3) national curriculum tests is between 3 per cent. and 4 per cent. whereas the absence rate for key stage 2 (KS2) tests is around 1 per cent. The proportion of pupils absent or unable to access the KS3 tests in 2007, broken down by local authority, can be found on the Department's Achievement and Attainment Tables website at:
