Railways: Alcoholic Drinks

Volume 475: debated on Friday 16 May 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if she will assess the merits of amending the national conditions of carriage for train operating companies to ban the drinking from, and carrying of, open containers of alcohol by passengers. (204944)

Train companies can already ban alcohol from trains using their powers under the railway byelaws. The byelaws also permit train companies and the police to remove disorderly passengers from trains and stations as well as prosecute for antisocial behaviour.
