Volume 476: debated on Monday 19 May 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what recent assessment he has made of the adequacy of support for grassroots football; and if he will make a statement. (204636)

My Department has not made a recent assessment of the adequacy of support for grassroots football but, on 7 May, we announced a new three year funding deal with the Football Foundation. We will continue to provide £15 million each year to the Foundation matched by The Football Association and the Premier League.

Since its creation in July 2000, the Football Foundation has invested in over 5,000 projects worth £650 million and it is the country's largest funder of grassroots football.
