Occupational Health

Volume 476: debated on Monday 19 May 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what estimate he has made of the number of people made unwell by their work conditions in the last 12 months; and if he will make a statement. (204902)

From the latest available data for 2006-07, an estimated 646,000 people in Great Britain developed ill health they believed was caused or made worse by their work. This estimate is based on responses to questions in the labour force survey. The results have an associated 95 per cent. confidence interval and could thus be between from 627,000 to 697,000. The figures for 2007-08 will be published in the autumn.
