23. To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families what steps he is taking to enable 30 per cent. of pupils in all schools to achieve at least five good GCSEs including English and mathematics. (205988)

We will invest £200 million over the next three years to ensure that by 2011 at least 30 per cent. of pupils in every secondary school will achieve at least five good GCSEs including English and mathematics or the school will be subject to formal intervention. We announced this investment in the Budget, and in June we will publish our strategy to achieve this ambition.
