Patients: Attendance

Volume 477: debated on Friday 13 June 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many hospital appointments were missed in each primary care trust in the last year for which information is available; what the average cost of a missed hospital appointment was in that year; and if he will make a statement. (211092)

The number of missed hospital appointments in each primary care trust for 2007-08 is shown in the table.

The Department has not made an estimate of the cost of such missed appointments. Through the introduction of choice and choose and book, patients can now choose the place, time and date of their hospital appointment which will help to reduce the number of missed appointments in national health service hospitals.
