Departmental Pay

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many and what proportion of employees in his Department who received a performance-related bonus at their last appraisal were (a) male, (b) female, (c) from an ethnic minority, (d) disabled and (e) not heterosexual; and if he will make a statement. (208374)

Bonuses were paid in 2007, based on performance in the 2006-07 reporting year to 324 staff. The breakdown of which is as follows, using manpower figures at the end of April 2008:

(a) 16.4 per cent. of males in the Department received a bonus (131 staff);

(b) 15.0 per cent. of females in the Department received a bonus (193 staff);

(c) 11.1 per cent. of ethnic minorities in the Department received a bonus (two staff);

(d) 6.25 per cent. of disabled staff in the Department received a bonus (five staff); and

(e) sexual orientation is not currently monitored in the Northern Ireland Office.
