To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many and what proportion of employees in his Department who received a performance-related bonus at their last appraisal were (a) male, (b) female, (c) from an ethnic minority, (d) disabled and (e) not heterosexual; and if he will make a statement. (208380)

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has not yet determined performance-related bonus payments for the reporting year 2007-08. The following data give a breakdown for the appraisal period ending 2006-07:

2,902 (51.36 per cent. of the total number of staff who received a bonus were male);

1,984 (35.12 per cent. of the total number of staff who received a bonus were female);

406 (7.19 per cent. of the total number of staff who received a bonus were from an ethnic minority);

207 (3.66 per cent. of the total number of staff who received a bonus were disabled); and

we do not collect data on the sexual orientation of staff.

Staff declaration of ethnic background and disabled status is voluntary.
