Republic of Ireland: Treaty of Lisbon

Volume 477: debated on Thursday 19 June 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has had with (a) the Irish Government and (b) other EU member state governments on whether the Irish Republic may be given special dispensation not to sign the Lisbon treaty. (212259)

My right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary made a statement to the House on 16 June on the result of the referendum in Ireland on the Lisbon treaty. The statement followed discussions with his counterparts at the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council in Luxembourg on the same day.

There will be a meeting of the European Council from 19 to 20 June.
