To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what progress has been made in meeting the Government’s targets to increase the electrification of railways. (212330)

However, the Department for Transport is working closely with the rail industry to re-examine the business case for electrification, explore how costs can be reduced and to agree priority schemes. The aim is to produce an indicative implementation plan by the end of 2008.
