Zimbabwe: Elections

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent discussions he has had with his Chinese counterpart on bringing pressure to bear on the Zimbabwe Government to conduct free and fair elections. (213842)

[holding answer 25 June 2008]: My right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary and my noble Friend the Minister for Africa, Asia and the UN, Lord Malloch-Brown, frequently discuss Zimbabwe with their Chinese counterparts. There were further discussions with senior diplomats in late June.
