To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many Metropolitan Police officers trained in firearms handling have been taken off front line duty due to vision problems or impairments in the last three years. (218440)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police recruit applications have been turned down due to vision problems or impairments in the last three years. (218441)

In the last three years to 31 March 2007, a total of 26 individuals have been rejected after having their eyesight tested at the medical assessment stage.

This represents a total of 0.1 per cent. of the total number of applicants during the same period.
