Offensive Weapons: Schools

Volume 479: debated on Monday 1 September 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many incidents involving a bladed weapon or firearm have been reported in schools in each of the last 10 years. (219567)

The information requested is not collected centrally. The Home Office is responsible for the recorded crime statistics which includes data on the number of knife and sharp instrument offences recorded by the police for selected offences (since April 2007) and the numbers of firearms offences (excluding air weapons) since 1970. However, it is not possible to separately identify from these data whether an offence took place in a school.
