To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many people aged over (a) 55 and (b) 60 years were recruited by his Department in 2007-08; and what percentage in each case this was of the number of new recruits. (228742)

Nine new recruits were aged over 55 of which four were aged over 60. This accounts for 2.4 per cent. and 1.0 per cent. of new recruits respectively.
