Sudan: Overseas Aid

Volume 481: debated on Monday 27 October 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress has been made in the procurement and transport of donor-provided equipment for Darfur; and if he will make a statement. (226090)

Several donors, including the UK, are equipping troops and police due to deploy with the UN-African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). Procurement of UK-funded equipment for a Tanzanian infantry battalion is under way. We are in close contact with the UN and other donors to ensure nations contributing to UNAMID have the equipment they need, and we are pressing the UN to use airlift to move equipment rapidly into Darfur.
