To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his officials are participating in the European Commission's investigation into the legality of the continued availability of low value consignment relief from value added tax in respect of imports of food supplements, herbal remedies and other items from the Channel Islands; and if he will make a statement. A reply was sent to the European Commission in April 2008 by HMRC. This was in response to the Commission's request for comment about the UK's application of the low value consignment relief.

To date no further correspondence has been received.
