Departmental Disciplinary Proceedings

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what sanctions are available in cases of departmental staff found to have committed disciplinary offences; and how many times each has been used in each of the last three years. (230205)

The disciplinary procedure for departmental staff permits managers to impose the following range of disciplinary penalties:

Oral warning;

Written warning;

Final written warning;

Past or future performance payments withheld or withdrawn in whole or part;

Financial penalty by way of fine or restitution for loss or damage (payments recovered by deduction from pay);

Ban on promotion for a specified period;

Suspension or withdrawal of security clearance;

Suspension for a specified period with or without loss of pay;

Transfer to a lower pay range for a specified period with appropriate reduction in salary; and

Dismissal.

The following penalties were imposed in each of the last three years. The response covers employees of HM Treasury, OGC, OGC Buying Solutions and DMO.
