Volume 483: debated on Tuesday 18 November 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs if he will instruct the Fish Health Inspectorate to reduce the five working days’ notice required for a visual inspection of mussels on the seabed in an approved zone in the open sea west of Brixham harbour so as to provide an EU health certificate under Commission Decision 2007/104/EC. (236191)

[holding answer 17 November 2008]: The Fish Health Inspectorate’s requirement for five working days notice is a long standing arrangement and part of their citizens charter. The Fish Health Inspectorate guarantee to provide a visual inspection service within this time period, but will endeavour to meet shorter deadlines where possible, through dialogue with the exporter.
