Smoking: Departmental Co-ordination

Volume 483: debated on Tuesday 18 November 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what discussions he has had with the Department of Health on the effect of the public smoking ban on levels of (a) noise nuisance and (b) smoking-related litter. (235008)

I have had no discussions with the Department of Health on the effects of the smoking ban on levels of noise nuisance or litter. However, DEFRA and the Department of Health have in place a partnership agreement, a key component of which is a senior official level working group who, along with key delivery partners, provide a framework to improve the quality and appropriateness of the work between the two Departments. The working group held their second meeting in October.
