Transplant Surgery

Volume 483: debated on Tuesday 18 November 2008

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many people have been on the waiting list for organ transplant in each year since 1997, broken down by organ awaited; and if he will make a statement. (235717)

The following table provides the number of registrations on the waiting list for each organ on 31 December in each year since 1997. The national list can change on a daily basis as people are removed from the transplant list because their clinical condition deteriorates and later rejoin when their condition improves. We are taking action to enable more people to benefit from a transplant. Implementation of the Organ Donation Taskforce recommendations published in January 2008, should see donation rates rise by 50 per cent. by 2013.
