To ask the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills how many (a) universal serial bus flash memory data storage devices, (b) mobile telephones, (c) personal digital assistants and (d) laptop computers, used to store restricted or confidential data have been lost by or stolen from his Department in each year since 2001. The following table shows how many items used to store restricted or confidential information which have been lost or stolen by the Department since it was created in June 2007. The records do not distinguish between lost and stolen items. Before June 2007, the functions which make up the Department were part of other Government Departments, and records are retained by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
