Housing Benefit: North West

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions how many housing benefit claimants there are in (a) the North West, (b) Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council area and (c) Cheadle constituency. (242533)

[holding answer 11 December 2008]: As at August 2007, the most recent available information, there were 518,600 housing benefit recipients in the north-west. At the same date there were 14,000 housing benefit recipients in Stockport metropolitan borough council area. Housing benefit information is not available at constituency level.

1. Data refer to benefit units, which may be a single person or a couple.

2. The figures have been rounded to the nearest hundred.

3. Figures for any non-responding authorities have been estimated.
