Identity Cards: Interviews

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what the criteria will be for deciding which applicants for an identity card will be required to attend an interview in order to authenticate their identity. (241612)

In some cases when individuals apply for registration on the National Identity Register or for a replacement identity card they will be asked to attend an interview. An interview may be necessary so as to ensure that the individual applicant is the true owner of the identity.

While the precise arrangements for interviews have yet to be finalised, we will build upon existing practice for interviewing first time adult passport applicants.
