To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what her most recent estimate is of the proportion of crimes involving violence and disorder which are related to irresponsible drinking. (243460)

We do not have an estimate for crimes involving violence and disorder specifically related to irresponsible drinking. However, 'Crime in England and Wales 2007-08' indicates that 45 per cent. of victims of violent incidents believed the offender(s) to be under the influence of alcohol. Supplementary tables of 'Crime in England and Wales 2006-07' show that 18 per cent. of all violence occurred in a pub or club and 48 per cent. of all violent offences were committed between Friday evening and Monday morning.
