To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many asylum seekers have committed suicide while being held in an immigration centre in each of the last 10 years, broken down by (a) centre, (b) age and (c) sex. (243154)

There have been seven self-inflicted deaths in immigration removal centres during this period detailed as follows. All were failed asylum seekers or other immigration offenders awaiting removal.

One in Haslar, aged 42. Two in Harmondsworth, ages were 31 and 26. One in Dungavel, aged 23. One in Colnbrook, aged 24. One in Campsfield, aged 18. One in Yarl’s Wood, aged 35. All the individuals were male.
