Volume 486: debated on Thursday 15 January 2009

To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families how many 17-year-olds participated in education and training in (a) 2006-07 and (b) 2007-08. (247478)

Estimates of participation in education for those aged 16-18 are published annually by the Department in a Statistical First Release (SFR) each June and can be found on the Department's website (http: //www.dcsf.gov.uk/rsgateway/DB/SFR/s000792/index.s html). We estimate the numbers of 17-year-olds participating in education and training at the end of 2006 and 2007 were 537,400 and 555,100 respectively.
