Cancer: Scotland

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what estimate the Office of National Statistics has made of the number of patients diagnosed with cancer in each Westminster constituency in Scotland in (a) 2003, (b) 2004, (c) 2005, (d) 2006 and (e) 2007, broken down by cancer type. (241486)

As National Statistician, I have been asked to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question asking what estimate the Office for National Statistics has made of the number of patients diagnosed with cancer in each Westminster constituency in Scotland in (a) 2003, (b) 2004, (c) 2005, (d) 2006 and (e) 2007, broken down by cancer type. [241486]

The latest available figures for newly diagnosed cases of cancer (incidence) are for the year 2005 for Scotland. Table 1 shows the number of patients diagnosed with the most common cancers (colorectal, lung, breast and prostate) in each Westminster constituency in Scotland in (a) 2003, (b) 2004, and (c) 2005.
